From time to time, the issue of including the State of Yemen in the Gulf Cooperation Council is raised. Considering that the Gulf Cooperation Council is a regional unity project consisting of the oil-rich Arab Gulf states (namely, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates), the member states are committed to the consequences of regional unity, especially joint military defense, unity of vision, and common political interests. It has long been seen as an exclusive club to which the wealthiest Arab countries belong. Therefore, joining the Gulf Cooperation Council is a high priority for impoverished Yemen, which hopes to strengthen its ties with wealthy neighboring countries and improve its security situation, but the Gulf Cooperation Council countries have historically refused to grant Yemen membership in the council. The debate on Yemen’s relationship with the Gulf Cooperation Council was reopened, and several voices in the Gulf countries called for a political approach aimed at including Yemen in the Gulf Cooperation Council as soon as the Yemeni war ends in 2015, in which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia intervened as a major regional state representing the joint military alliance on behalf of the countries. The Arabian Gulf, which has its motives from the extension of Yemeni-Gulf relations over time. The idea of the yen joining the two Gulf Cooperation Councils is no longer a matter of mockery. Rather, the Gulf states should realize that closer cooperation between the countries of the Arabian Peninsula with each other constitutes a historic opportunity that must be seized.
